As a result of ongoing pressure by the Ambleside Boaters and concerned citizens the District of West Vancouver commissioned a report from a private consultant regarding potential vehicle accessible boat ramps in West Vancouver. (Click to download the report).
This report was presented at a council meeting on July 24, 2017. Ambleside Boaters and various public speakers presented concerns to the District about lack of access to the water in West Vancouver.
Councillors supported the idea of a launch at the Welcome Figure.
Ambleside Boaters Group did a further study to provide costing for a simple pilot project - one that could be modified in the future as needs require and would cost a fraction of the costs quoted in the District report. Parks staff have been non receptive and have indicated the need for further study and public consultation.
Every public consultation since 2008 has shown strong support for public boat access in our community. We have been without access for 2 years however so want to drive this pilot proposal ahead. Public pressure is required to ensure that Councillors and Parks staff deliver a public boat launch in the District of West Vancouver versus delaying past 2019 via continued study.
A pilot in this location would provide access similar to the old ramp (4' tide access), it would not have the same pedestrian/bike/vehicle conflicts as the old ramp, and would provide interest in this end of the park.
